Glossary

Any product, mixture, material or substance that is classified in accordance with applicable legislation. Hazardous products are regulated under WHMIS regulations.

Organizations that sell or import hazardous products and provide them to a company.

Large division of hazardous products divided into two categories: Physical Hazard and Health Hazard.

Division of Hazard Group that further characterizes the property of the hazardous product (i.e Flammable).

The graphics/symbols that make it easy to identify a product’s hazard. For example, a product can have two pictograms to show that it is both flammable and a health hazard.

A product information sheet produced by the supplier that outlines important information about the product properties and how to safely use the product.

A system that provides important information on the safe use of hazardous materials, by means of product labels, data sheets, and worker education programs.
