Routine Practices
Infection Prevention and Control practices that help prevent the spread of infection. They are used at all times, by all health care professionals, with all patients, residents, and clients.
Additional Precautions
Practices used for patients with suspected or known infections when Routine Practices are inadequate to prevent infection transmission (aka “isolation”). These practices are always used in addition to Routine Practices.
Health Care Acquired Infection
Infections acquired in health care settings.
Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC)
Part of quality and patient safety, IPAC is dedicated to reducing the spread of health care-related infections within our facilities across the region.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Items used by health care workers (and visitors) to help prevent the spread of infections (e.g. gloves, gowns, mask with visor, respirator).
